Fan Card Tutorial

May 31, 2025 Leave a Comment

31 May
Fun Fan Card Tutorial shows a greeting card in beige, greens, and gold foil. Patterned paper depicting a city street map is layered with a contrasting patterned paper with greens and gold foil with triangle shapes intersecting at a point on lower left corner. Sentiment is'congratulations' in a fancy font.

This easy Fan Card is perfect for a graduation, new job, retirement or other special milestone. The city street map is the ‘B’ side of one of the gorgeous floral patterns in the Beautiful Gallery patterned paper pack. I combined it with the gold foil ‘A’ side of the Mossy Meadow Season of Elegance patterned paper. Industrial meets elegant! Let’s get started.

Cutting & Scoring Guide for Fan Card

step by step instructions

Begin by cutting all the paper as noted above. Don’t have the Beautiful Gallery or Season of Elegance papers? Pick some up in my online store, or substitute something from your stash.

Make a tick mark at the top of the card base front at the 2½” mark with your nail, a stylus or a pencil. Line up the tick mark in the cutting groove of a paper trimmer, pivot the bottom right front corner into the cutting groove and slice from top to bottom at an angle. Keep both the card base and the triangle.

Cut the 1½” x 5½” piece of Basic Beige in half from the top left corner to the bottom right corner. Keep one of the triangles and save the other for another project.

Make a tick mark at 2½” at the top of the 4″ x 5¼” map patterned paper. Cut from the tick mark to the bottom right corner. Save the triangle for another project.

Cut the 1¼” X 5″ map patterned paper in half from the top left corner to the bottom right corner. Keep one triangle and save the other for another project.

Cut the 2¼” x 4¾” piece of Season of Elegance patterned paper in half from the top left corner to the bottom right corner. Keep one triangle and save the other for another project.

Cut the last piece of 2½” x 5¼” piece of Season of Elegance patterned paper in half from the top left corner to the bottom right corner. Keep one triangle and save the other for another project.

assembly of fan card

Adhere the largest the green triangle onto the upper right corner of the Basic White liner. Adhere inside the card base. Layer and adhere the remaining patterned papers onto the corresponding Basic Beige pieces.

With the card base folded in half, place the large green/beige piece at an angle as shown. Hold the triangle in place and flip the card front open. Use a pencil to mark where the card edge ends. Add dimensionals below the pencil marks, cutting one into a narrow strip to place at the end point. Erase the pencil marks, remove the dimensional backings and adhere to card front.

Place the remaining narrow triangle with map/beige on top. Hold in place and flip over, marking the edge again with a pencil. Remove and add liquid glue to the back of the triangle below the pencil marks. Erase the pencil marks. Adhere the triangle to the card front.

Side edge view of Fan Card. Layers of map patterned paper with triangles of green, gold, beige and more map patten bisect greeting card front. Congratulations greeting overlays the triangles.

Stamp a sentiment on a scrap of Basic Beige in Mossy Meadow ink. Place dimensionals on left hand side, add liquid glue to the right hand side and adhere overhanging the triangles on the left side.

I made a video tutorial over on my YouTube page if you need a visual.
