I don’t know about you, but I’ve always been partial to fireflies, or lightning bugs, or flying pyrotechnic displays in my backyard. Whatever you call them, fireflies make me think of summertime, my grandparents’ backyard and the 4th of July. The display at the top was my inspiration for this card:
In real life, the card front has lots of depth and color, but try as I may, I could not capture that in a photo – guess I need photography lessons. I sponged Pool Party all over my watercolor paper, then added Lost Lagoon, Island Indigo and Mossy Meadow. Then I used a very sophisticated and expensive tool – NOT – I used a brand new pencil and dipped the eraser into Hello Honey to make the fireflies. I added some Pool Party dots for fun. Then I matted the top layer on matching card stock.
Wish you could see the card front in real life, as it is much more colorful, and looks like the fireflies are emerging at dusk. It also has a bokeh effect, which I was also aiming for. I debated about adding a sentiment, and I still might, but thought it took away from the naturalness. What do you think? Do the layers stand on their own, or is it too plain? Let me know by commenting below. Happy 4th!
