Let’s try stripping! No, not physically sillies. Designing with paper strips using the Floating Strips Technique. This is a really simple way to use up scraps of cardstock or designer series paper. Cut strips of paper and adhere them to a piece of window sheet leaving a small space between them. Then trim the window sheet to the desired size or shape. Finally, adhere it to your card front with dimensionals or adhesive foam strips that are hidden behind the strips of paper. The strips magically float above the card base.
I embossed the white cardstock panel with the Pretty Flowers embossing folder in the sample above. I cut strips ranging in height from 1/4″ to 5/8″ in Granny Apple Green, Bermuda Bay, Cinnamon Cider and Pale Papaya. The window sheet panel measures 3″ x 4-1/4″. Copper Foil branches add a bit of shine. And lastly, I embossed the coneflowers from Harvest Meadow and popped them up on dimensionals strategically placed at the thickest parts of the embossing.
In this sample, Blackberry Beauty Designer Series Paper was my base for the Floating Strips Technique. Next I cut my strips in Polished Pink, Rich Razzleberry, Cinnamon Cider and Blackberry Bliss. Look at those branches cut from the Cork Specialty Paper — I love that paper! Hoping it carries forward into the next catalog, but in case it doesn’t, I’ve already bought multiple packs. Then I shredded the ends of the Gold 3/8″ Shimmer Ribbon behind the owl. I left the center of the ribbon intact so I had something to apply the glue dot to. And finally, I popped up the gorgeous owl from the Blackberry Beauty Ephemera pack with a few dimensionals.
I can hardly wait to try this technique with shapes in place of rectangles. Imagine Christmas ornament or tree shapes. Now let’s see what you create. Happy ‘stripping’!
