A spook dragonfly? Why not with a Ghosting Technique, just in time for my favorite holiday, Halloween! No bleach, no toxic fumes. Just ink and a secret ingredient I’ll share with you. Let ‘s get started.
Scoring & cutting guide
Paper Dimensions | Score Short Side | Score Long Side
6-1/4” x 7” Starry Sky cardstock base | 3-1/2″
3” x 5-3/4” Basic White cardstock
3-1/8” x 5-7/8” Orchid Oasis cardstock
Scrap of Orchid Oasis cardstock |
Start with the piece of Basic White cardstock and use a sponge dauber to rub Pale Papaya ink towards the center. This should be a random shape.
Now switch to Fresh Freesia and rub the ink around the Pale Papaya and be very generous. Overlap the ink colors slightly. Blending brushes would work as well but to get the amount of ink needed it would take a long time.
Next up is Orchid Oasis. Again, go around the Fresh Freesia and overlap just a bit. Do’t worry about any blobs that are made. Those will be fixed shortly.
The last ink color is Starry Sky. I applied it in the same way as the first three colors of ink.
Then I used the Fresh Freesia ink again and went over all of the ink colors except the Pale Papaya. This blends the purple-y colors together.
ghosting technique secret
Now for the secret sauce – Stampin’ Mist! That’s right, I’m going to stamp with stamp cleaner!! I spritzed the dragonfly stamp off to the side so I wouldn’t get the cleaner on my work surface. Then press and hold the stamp for 15-20 seconds. Remove the stamp and watch the image start to appear as the cleaner soaks into the paper. This technique works best with red rubber stamps. I did try it with photopolymer and did not have as good a result. Heat the entire panel to dry the image and the ink thoroughly.
I inked up the the spots image from the Quiet Meadow stamp set with Versamark ink and stamped randomly along the edges of the panel. A little silver embossing powder and the heat tool does its magic. No need to use an embossing buddy. Stray embossing powder just adds to this card.
I layered the finished panel on the mat of Orchid Oasis. Then I adhered the matted piece to the Starry Sky card base. For fun, I used the Happy Halloween sentiment from the Spooky Treats Paper Pumpkin Kit stamped in Starry Sky ink on a strip of Orchid Oasis card and popped it up with dimensionals.
I hope you like my non-traditional spooky card using the Ghost Technique. Visit my YouTube channel for a video of how to make this card.
