How to Make a Wine Glass Charm

Purple, blue and pink beaded handmade wine glass charms with monstera leaf from shrink plastic

Stamps can make loads of things besides cards. Add some shrink plastic, beads and wire and learn how to make a wine glass charm! It’s easy and so much fun to watch the plastic do a little dance.

The shrink plastic I used was opaque white. I cut a 3″ square piece and set it on my grid paper. Then I scribbled over the entire surface with a Stampin’ Blend. The dark options work better. I inked up the monstera leaf from Artfully Layered with black StazOn ink and stamped over the top of the blend ink. Next I diecut the image with the Tropical Layers matching die.

Punch a 1/4″ hole in the leaf. There’s a perfect stamped “hole” close to the stem so I used my punch there. Hold the piece down with something, I used my extra long tweezers and blast the plastic with a heat gun. The plastic wiggles and dances as it magically shrinks! The piece is done when it’s mostly flat. While the charm is still warm, press the surface with an acrylic block. Add a jump ring.

I pulled a spool of 24 gauge beading wire from my crafting stash and cut off an 1-1/2″ piece. (Other options for the wire include hoop earring bases as well as wine glass charm wires, all which can be gotten online from Amazon. I just used what I already had.) Using a needle-nosed pliers, I curled one end in. Then I threaded beads, the charm, and more beads. Lastly, I curled the other end of the wire.

If you need a visual, I made a reel over on my Instagram account of the process. There’s something about watching that shrinking plastic that is so satisfying. And a wine glass charm is super cute, useful, and makes a great Valentine gift! Make a set and add a bottle of bubbly for your friends.
