Tri Shutter Card

11 May

A Tri Shutter Card folds flat and opens up to surprise dimension

A Tri Shutter Card folds flat for mailing and opens up to glorious dimension. And it is super simple to make. Read on for the complete instructions, or download printable version here.

Directions for a Tri Shutter Card

  1. Cut card base to 5 ½” x 10 ½”.
  2. On the 10 ½” side, score at 1 ¾” and 3 ½”. Turn to the opposite side and score again at 1 ¾” and 3 ½”.a. On the 5 ½” side, line up the edge at the 1 ½” mark and cut from first score line (at 1 ¾”) to last score line (at 8 ¾”). Turn to the opposite side and repeat.

NOTE: Black lines are score lines, cut lines are green and orange

         b. Fold alternating mountain and valley on each section as shown below.

The Tri Shutter Card uses mountain and valley folds to make the shutter effect.

  1. Decorate as desired. If you like my layout, I used the following measurements and supplies:

          Designer Series Paper mats:
          2 each 1 ½” x 5 ¼”
          2 each 1 ¼” x 3 ¼”

          Texturized cardstock in Crumb Cake:
          1 ¼” x 1 ½”

          Lovely Lipstick mat:
          2 each 2 ¼ x 3 ¼
          1 each 1 ½” x 2 ¼”

          Whisper White:
          2 each 2” x 3”
          1 each 1 1/2” x 2”

Oh So Eclectic stamp set (143940)
Greeting is from Sentimental Rose stamp set (from April 2019 Paper Pumpkin:
          Eclectic Layers Thinlits Dies (143774)
          Lovely Lipstick ink and cardstock
          Flirty Flamingo ink and cardstock
          Mint Macaron ink

  1. Then fold the Tri Shutter Card like an accordion, and open it a few times, to “train” the cardstock on how it should open easily. Sit back and watch the card recipient’s delight when they get your masterpiece!
