World Cardmaking Day isn’t over yet! I tried a new-to-me technique this afternoon — tissue paper watercolor. While it can be a bit messy if not prepped, the final effect is worth it. I used Pigment Sprinkles because I love the vivid colors, though reinkers work as well.
Tissue Paper Watercolor Prep
- Place a large piece of waxed paper or parchment paper on top of a stack of newsprint
- Lay a piece of Whisper White cardstock on top of the paper; set aside
- Line a cardboard flat box (the kind soda comes in) or line an old jelly roll pan with waxed paper
- Spritz water in the center of the waxed paper
- Sprinkle one or more colors of Pigment Sprinkles on top of the water
- Spritz with more water
- Lay an over-sized piece of white tissue paper on top of the pigmented water
- Gently lift up saturated tissue paper and set on top of the Whisper White cardstock set aside earlier
- Once the tissue paper is no longer soaking wet, gently lift up and set aside to dry completely
The prep work is all done, and there’s a bonus with this technique: the watercolor tissue paper is for one card, and the Whisper White cardstock is perfect for a background piece for another project!
Details for Tissue Paper Watercolor Card
Gently wad up the watercolor tissue paper, and then partially straighten it out. Spread a thin layer of Tombow Multipurpose Glue over the entire surface of a blank piece of Whisper White cardstock. Lay the piece of tissue paper on top and gently press down with your fingertips. Let dry. Flip cardstock over and trim along cardstock edge with scissors.
Pat surface with an Embossing Buddy. Tap the creases of the watercolor tissue paper with Versamark ink. Sprinkle gold embossing powder on top and heat emboss. Cut piece down to 3 1/2″ square. Layer and adhere to a Basic Black square 3 5/8″ x 3 5/8″. Pop up on Dimensionals on Whisper White card base. Diecut swirly star piece from the Stitched Stars Dies and adhere with Fine Tip Glue Pen. Stamp sentiment from Itty Bitty Greetings in black Memento ink.
And don’t forget the inside of the card – I glued 3 of the tiny stars left over from the Stitched Stars Dies swirly piece in the lower right corner.
